At first, the accumulation of credits is paramount. Then it gets to be kind of a game. Then, I must admit, the credits become secondary and the interaction and verbal discourses are what count. And, in a very Zen-like manner, as you rise above worrying about credits, they magically accumulate very easily. Now, I just wish I could become so Zen-like about money. However, I've found that it doesn't build magically, no matter what my attitude. By now I have forgoten how many people I have told. I was in a car accident in Jan of 1981, I was 19, three months before turning 20. I was with supposenly my best friend in a bar, when after a few drinks we decided to leave to get some gas for the car. We were going to meet a couple of girls later and go out out after the bar closed. I was driving at first, going down RT 109 on Long Island, when after several miles and passing four or five closed gas stations, my friend saw a hole in the wall bar and said we should stop and have another drink there. Well I pulled over parked the car and we went to the bar. We were carded and since my friend, Billy, only had a copy of his birth certificate the bouncer would not allow him in so we left. Billy wanted to drive and even though he did not have a licence it was his car so I gave him the keys. We decided to go back to the Anytime Lounge, (the bar we were started out from). Going back down RT 109, Billy put the pedal down, since there was nobody on the road. I guess we were doing 100 to 120 we the asshole, (Billy), jiggled the sterring wheel about half an inch to the right real quick and then back. It wasn't because he was drunk, that's the way he was, just crazy. The back of the car started sliding toward's the middle of the street and when he tried to straighten it out the back of the car started sliding towards the curb. Once the back wheels hit the curb, the car started flippy over side ways. I don't remember how many times the car fliped over, I just remember watching the stores going around in circles looking out the front windshied as it shattered and disappeared. We ended up in the parking lot of a mini- mall. You know, the ones with a super market a several other little stores on each side of it. Well when the car stopped flipping, Billy said "lets go", and that's when I relized and told him I couldn't move. He said that gas was leaking so he kicked out what was left of the back windshield and grabbing me from under my arms he pulled me out and away from the car. Well then a small kid came riding by on a stingray with one of those bannana seats and asked Billy if he had any joints to sell him, not even asking what happened or anything else. Billy just started shouting for someone to get an ambulance. Well the cops got there first and stupid me, I told them I was the one that was driving and that I hit a piece of ice on the road and lost control since Billy didn't have a licence and he had asked me to once we heard the cops sirens. I was totally concious and knew that I could not move but I didn't know how bad I was hurt. That's why I told the police what I did. It was just after the ambulance came that I started losing conciousness and after that I woke up in a hospital bed in I.C.U. And that is still a little fusy to remember and another story. Right now I at Coler Hospital on Roosevelt Island waiting for a one bedroom apartment to open up here on the Island here. I am at the top of the waiting list after waiting more than a year but it will be awhile before an apartment opens up. Pre- pare for the worst and hope for the best. Contrary to what most say they'll do, I wouldn't quit my job...right away, anyway. I'd just let the money pile up for a little while, I think. I'd, of course, buy some major gifts for all my loved ones (this is why all of you want to get on my good side!) and eventually buy a really nice apt. in NYC, and a house in AZ. I'd buy my sister a house and enroll her kids ( I'm really attached to my nephew and niece) in awesome schools and the best extracurricular activities there are. Plus pay off my sisters bills. I'd do pretty much the same for my brother and his family and don't know what I'd do with my parents. Maybe just give them major cash. The rest...I'd use for school for myself. I, of course, have no concept as to how much money I'd be winning and what would be left over after all this. But...Ih oh yeah, I'd buy a nice car, maybe one for AZ and one for NYC. Nah, not practical in NY, right? I'd just use a town car service. Hehe. I like the way this sounds. Oh, and I'd charter a really intense private jet and fly to AZ and get a bunch of my friends and family and bring them to the city to party with me. I could definately deal with this! Then, of course, there's all the other traveling I could do. I'd still rough if it if I went to Europe. I wanna go backpacking in Europe-just me, and couple of dear friends, and everything we'll have to use will be on our backs! I love it. Had a friend who did this and eventually went backpacking up the coast of Egypt and on the beach they have these little concrete...houses(?) they're tiny-tall people can't even stand in them, and they only hold two little cots and have a window hole cut in the side of them and a door hole. Well, there are a bunch of these along the beach and it only costs about a dollar a night to stay in one of them-you just break out your sleeping bag! And, there are all these other people in the little shacks surrounding you who are doing the same thing. Everyone makees a bonfire(or campfire if there aren't many people) and you meet everyone and hang out with them. I dunno what it is, but I've got a thing for campfires! Hehe. The cats hated Edgar and would sit there staring at Edgars little wire home, prolly waiting for him to fall or get too interested in something on the floor where the cats were. Edgar had class though. He flew straight out of the cage onto the forehead of the larger and moodier cat, and the cat had absolutely no way to deal with this. The cat could not admit that this wierd drunk little bird was in fact right now standing on his forehead. Faced with no other choice, the cats realized the identity of the new ruler of their world. Everyone was happy. Then Vinny left the goddamn window open one day and Edgar split, no one ever saw him again. If you ever find a small drunk bird standing on your head, lemme know, as I would be glad to buy Edgar a beer again, its been some time... Happy Holidays! I've been away essentially for eight months from After Hours, but four from the US. During that time, as many of you know, I've been attending an offshore American medical school. How has it been? In a word, shitty, not just because medical school is tough but because the school is an outright fraud. I'm sure if it were in this country, rather than on the criminal regime island of Dominica, it would've long ago been shut down. Nevertheless, for me anyway, it's a means to an end: a medical education. Most of the while, I study on my own without attending class. In fact, since I began, I've largely been teaching medicine to myself. On the one hand, that sucks, but on the other, living like an animal has given me both a new appreciation for the kind of life I am able to lead in the United States, and a discovery into how much I am truly capable of. I've received honors in nearly every class. The school administration of Ross University is hardly sympathetic. Many of the students suspect that they don't even have enough sites for clinical rotations for all its students and that they are trying to eliminate (fail) students out as their means of filtration. I've been one of the lucky ones to avoid this scourge, for now. This has prompted me to seek out clinical rotations for myself. I'm not sure how to go about this system, and I have almost no connections with which to deal in that department. If there's anyone that is involved with medical education, or knows someone who is, that could help me find clinical rotations for me, please let me know. Dominica is a rather poor island, but what is worse is that its people are, in all sense of the word, dumb. The poor of the US are incomparable because they are actually rather cunning. At the same time, Dominicans are lazy and greedy. The whole of these three things makes for a dangerous recipe of gross incompetence in just about everything they do. Living in Dominica is like living in a third world nation, but worse. There is occasionally electrical failure, water failure, and simple lack of food. This would not be so bad if the school were to at least treat its own students with any kind of respect. I myself have had some run-ins with the administration, and am convinced that they are fraudulent because they, among other things, withold financial aid checks and hire unqualified faculty. With this in mind, I have thought about doing a background search on one of the faculty. I'd like to know how this can be done, outside of hiring a PI, since I don't really have much money. I want to know this guy's educational background, what degrees he has, etc, because I suspect he has no qualifying degrees. Obtaining such information would give me something to go by. In one year, if all goes well, I'll be permanently returning to the US. Then I'll be taking the USMLE part I. Passing that exam successfully will be the biggest hurdle. Thank you all. And, just to add some excitement to the evening, the band will be performing at 11:30 that evening, playing some songs from the CD and a number of other tunes as well. Yes, Egon Spengler was one of the characters in the Ghostbusters movies. He was played by Harold Ramis, and was the one who had the dark, curly hair and glasses. He was of a scientific bent, not a con man like Peter, nor an enthusiast like Ray. The nickname was given to me in High School because I was interested in ghosts and the supernatural, and because I resembled him to an extent. Also, my life paralleled his to an extent, which was odd. :) (His life was delved into in the novels and the cartoons more so than the movies.) Not sure if it was a direct hit, or maybe right outside. When it happened, we heard and saw the lightning AT THE SAME TIME, and the air in the house crackled, we heard a big snap, and Deb saw a flash of light behind her inside the house! I had the foresight to power down the computers a few moments before this happened, and even ripped all the phone wires out trying to isolate the machines. End result...some major fuckups in some electrical systems in the house, which we should have repaired by tomorrow. The board was offline for about 3 hours last night, from about 6 to 9, because the lightning was so intense. Didn't have a chance to look around the outside of the house to see where this thing hit, but did notice about 100 mangled and downed trees on pelpkwy. We also lost power 6 or 8 times during the storm, but only for a minute or so each time. It was really scary when there would be a lightning explosion nearby and then everything would go out.
