It's a fun place that is slowly dying across the nation. Tonight's feature would have been ANACONDA but stupid me got there early and our food was getting warm to cold and the ice cream slowly was melting away. So what happens? all 3 of us decided upon the last Eddie Murphy flim...METRO...Not bad but it would have fooled me to be watching a tougher version of Beverly Hills Cop..but anyhow The drive in has those wonderful dips and hills and you're somewhat in eye view of the other 2 screens they have out there in this big ass field. For some reason they were only running Metro once so what the hell sure beats waiting for Anancanonda at 11pm... Here's a strange sight...watching the movie while the radio is broadcasting from a low FM frequency...all the while I was looking over to the right of me and I see Volcano..over to the left is SCREAM ...we had this option about seeing Scream at 1am or goign home....so I don't think Security would stop us or would they.> We didn't opt for Scream but I can say that Ananconda finished WAAAY before Metro..so go figure a short 1:29 film that started at 11pm.. Stayed for the last few minutes of Romeo and Juliet so eh..it was nice to see the death scene.. On the way home I spied on the somewhat rickity billboard announcing movies the drive in was playing...a silk banner under it read a coming soon... A new indoor theatre ...the last of the last drive in theatres in the driving distance is going to be no more... This really bites... Wow..you know, reading that message reminded me of the one and only time I ever went to a drive in movie in my entire life. We had ONE drive in theater near me when I was a child, and I remember going to it and seeing "Bambi." I guess the only thing that marred the whole experience was the fact that I started laughing when Bambi's mom got killed. Why, I dont know, but my mother was quite displeased. I have to admit though that it was a memorable experience, and I kind of wish there were more og them out there. Although, considering the kinds of trash that the movie industry keeps trying to foist on us, it's probably just as well. :) Date: Monday, June 30, 1997 1:19pm Forum: Video From: Johndrake Msg#: 738104 To: Sam Beckett Re: Drive In Theater (Reply to #738089, Reply to #734793) The odd thing about drive in theaters is that like a dinosaur...these places are becoming extinct...all for the price of development of land...I mean if you think about it..a 3 movie drive in could easily convert into a 10 movie theatre..more bang for hte buck for the owner but yet there's no governed law that makes each state keep a drive in :) Bambi's mom getting killed and you laughin???Wow..talk about losing it..or maybe you knew it was a cartoon after all..:) Date: Tuesday, July 1, 1997 7:08pm Forum: Video From: Sam Beckett Msg#: 738218 To: ** ALL ** Re: Egon and the Ghostbusters (Copy by Calvin) In answer to the request... Yes, Egon Spengler was one of the characters in the Ghostbusters movies. He was played by Harold Ramis, and was the one who had the dark, curly hair and glasses. He was of a scientific bent, not a con man like Peter, nor an enthusiast like Ray. The nickname was given to me in High School because I was interested in ghosts and the supernatural, and because I resembled him to an extent. Also, my life paralleled his to an extent, which was odd. :) (His life was delved into in the novels and the cartoons more so than the movies.)
